I'm predicting that I'm going to be relatively productive once September hits, so I'm going to go big for my Q3 FAL To Do list: I'm going to list all unfinished quilt tops and 2 that I have yet to make! Here's what that includes: 1. Bear Paw Cabin Quilt (finished top) 2. Flying Geese Cabin Quilt (finished top) 3. Plus Cabin Quilt (finished top) 4. Star Cabin Quilt (designed & fabric picked, not started) 5. Mega Log Cabin Quilt (finished top & back) 6. Turquoise Basket Weave Quilt (finished top & back) 7. Everyday Party Herringbone Quilt (fabrics & pattern chosen, not started) Lately I have also been feeling a need to complete some new gift bags. So I want to list project #8 as completing some new fabric gift bags to list in my store.
Wish me luck! Linking up to the Finish-A-Long project post.

That was close - I very nearly had ZERO finishes from my Q2 Finish-a-long list. But I had a flurry of productivity over the last 3 days and got this one basted, quilted, and bound. That means I got 1 out of 3 projects done for Q2. This quilt is number 3 of 4 (or maybe 5...or even 6) quilts that I started back in January of 2013 when I fell in love with turquoise and low-volume prints. My turquoise chevron quilt and half-square-triangle quilt were turquoise quilts numbers 1 and 2. Number 4 is a basket-weave quilt that still needs to be finished. And I'm not ready to talk about numbers 5 or 6 - I'll just say that fabric has been cut and partially pieced and I'm not sure where the quilts will go from there. This quilt came about when I realized that I had extra 6.5" x 6.5" blocks left over from my basket-weave quilt (twice as many as I needed), so I started to play with them on my design wall. Rather than just lay them all out in something like a stacked-coins pattern, I opted to cut some of the blocks in half to make rows that were between 2.5" and 3.5" tall. When it came time to quilt, I echoed all of the seams to create a nice grid. For the back of the quilt I added in one large strip of a coordinating fabric.
Quilt top finish! This top is the third in a series of four quilts that are destined for a bunk room in a cabin. I first mentioned these quilts in my 2014 Kick-Off post in January. I originally had these on my Q1 FAL list, but alas, I haven't totally finished any of them. When I completed the first one I decided that I wanted to see all of the tops together before I made a decision on how I wanted to quilt them. (As you can see, I decided to eliminate the chunky borders that were part of the original designs.) This Plus quilt is Kona cotton in wine with pluses in eggplant, ivory, and holly (though you can't tell that there are any light green pluses in these photos). We've had a string of beautiful sunny days, which is great in general, but makes it difficult to take quilt photos. This picture (above) shows the colors in the quilt a little more accurately. As I went to write this post, I realized that I had posted pictures of the Flying Geese and Bear Paw quilts on Instagram, but never talked about them here.
The Flying Geese Quilt is Kona eggplant, with geese in ivory and sage. The Bear Paw quilt is Kona forest with prints in ivory and cayenne. One more cabin quilt top to complete (Stars) and then I face the huge project of quilting all four of them. Today I am linking up to WIP Wednesday! |
